by RubyHHF

A Quiet Experiment
When I was a child, I thought growing up meant constantly acquiring more. As time went by, however, I came to realize that growth is, in many ways, a process of subtraction. It is letting go of the desire to be liked by everyone, letting go of the anxiety of proving that you are somehow special, and letting go of the attachment to being understood by others. In the end, only one question remains: Why am I here?
I have gradually come to believe that everyone enters this world carrying an experiment of their own. Some experiment with power. Some with wealth. Some with intimacy. Some with knowledge. As for me, I seem to be experimenting with a way of becoming light. Not to illuminate others, nor to heal anyone, but simply to keep asking whether a human life can become increasingly honest with itself.

People sometimes ask me what it means to live for others. I used to have complicated answers. Now my answer has become much simpler. Live your own life well. Become an opening through which life can flow. So that when someone passes through your life, they may suddenly realize, "Ah... perhaps it is also possible to live like this." If even the smallest spark of hope is kindled because of that, it is already enough.
Gradually, I stopped fearing that people would leave, and I also stopped fearing being misunderstood. Some environments are simply not compatible with who I am, and there is no need to force a connection. They have the world they believe in, and I have the world I believe in. I only wish to devote myself to what I know is truly important.
People often say we should strive to become extraordinary. Yet I find myself wanting that less and less. What I seek instead is an inner order—an order that allows me to hear my own breathing even when the world grows unbearably noisy; an order that allows me to return to the child within while others are busy putting on the masks of adulthood. True courage is not becoming sharper or harder. It is allowing yourself to remain gentle without falling apart.

I began asking myself: Would I rather become a tree or drifting duckweed? The sea or merely a wave? I chose to move more slowly and to grow more deeply. I chose to dig my own well, inch by inch, instead of standing with a bowl, waiting for someone else's water to flow by.
Eventually, I realized that what truly imprisons us is not suffering itself, but the wound that never quite closes. Many people rush to seal it. I have learned instead to sit quietly with it. Perhaps it is not a flaw at all. Perhaps it is precisely the place where the Way enters one's life.
So I began learning a different way of living. Strive for what is worth striving for. And if, after doing your best, it still does not come to you, entrust it to causes and conditions. Stand behind your own choices. Take full responsibility for their consequences. Do well what should be done, and walk the path that is yours to walk. Cause and effect never overlook even the smallest intention.

Some people say the world is becoming worse. I do not think so. I believe the world has always been this way. To live is to row against the current. Protecting your energy is important, but eventually all energy will be spent, transformed, and returned. Knowing this, perhaps it is better simply to be a little braver.
That is why I no longer believe that art is merely about healing. Or rather, not only about healing. Its task is to transform points of pain into coherent, resilient structures capable of sustaining one's inner life—like a bridge, like a tree, like the sea.
In time, I finally understood that faith is not about believing in a particular answer. It is about becoming increasingly clear about why you came into this world, and then allowing your life to revolve around that purpose. Each day, drawing a little closer to it. Each day, becoming a little more truly yourself.
If one day our paths happen to cross, I will not hurry to convince you of anything. I simply hope you will bloom wholeheartedly, wherever your own meadow or valley may be.

Beyond the Burning Sea, Cleansing the Moon Within

RubyHHF is an artist and writer whose practice combines painting and poetry to preserve the quiet beauty of everyday life and the subtle movements of the inner world. Moving between lightness and philosophical reflection, She explores how one might move from chaos toward clarity, and from desire toward tenderness.
She believes that art is not only a means of communicating with the world, but also a path toward inner healing—a quiet yet steadfast force of grounding in an ever-changing age.
Working primarily in oil painting, watercolor, and handwritten text, she responds to her own emotions and the energies of the world around her. Her works retain a distinct sense of human warmth and the tactile presence of handmade creation.
Her work weaves together warmth, innocence, humor, and mindful awareness, unfolding like a flower that slowly blossoms from the earth of a valley beneath the night sky.
Artist Statement:
I do not paint answers.
I paint states of being.
Between light and shadow, between motion and stillness, within the pause that has yet to be named, I search for the moment that has not fully arrived.
It is neither darkness nor light.
It is transition, breath, the space before the next heartbeat.
My work begins with the everyday
gardens, slopes, moonlight, wind, coffee, songs in rain and mist.
Yet it does not end there.
Through sustained contemplation, forms shed their surfaces and reveal their structures:
roots intertwining, stones in silence, wind rotating within itself,
flowers growing from the site of a wound.
For me, poetry and painting are not separate mediums.
They are a reciprocal movement
an image calls forth a poem, and the poem returns to reshape the image.
Within this exchange, emotion cools, language settles,
and points of pain slowly transform into stable structures.
I am drawn to the in-between state.
Between the rise and fall of tides,
between one breath and the next,
before light fully illuminates.
There are no dramatic victories there
only sustained attention.
In an era of acceleration, I remain devoted to the tactile.
The thickness of oil paint, the fibers of paper, the trace of handwriting
these are how I preserve authenticity,
how I return to an inner axis amid constant flux.
I do not believe art is an escape from reality.
It is an anchoring.
A force that remains still within movement.
If my work offers anything,
it is a field
a space where one may pause,
discern the direction of the wind,
and hear the voice within that has yet to speak.
In that light not yet fully formed,
every choice
may give birth to a flower.
